Dr. Rudolf Hauschka (1891-1969) studied chemistry, pharmacology, anatomy and psychiatry – but felt that his life did not have a focus.

He felt that mankind should not exploit the earth, but should fulfil an obligation to care for it with as much love and knowledge as possible. In 1924 Rudolf Hauschka met Rudolf Steiner who gave him a reason for future research “Rhythm is the carrier of life”

Dr Hauschka beauty productsIn 1929 Dr. Hauschka developed a method of producing remedies from herbs by using a rhythmical method of extraction instead of alcohol. It was then that the first Rose petal extract was made without preservatives, and it is still around.

Rhythm is not the perpetual repetition of the same thing – that is tempo or beat. There are many rhythms – the rhythm of sunrise and sunset; the moon’s phases; the seasons; the star constellations – all these helped to direct Dr. Hauschka’s experiments until they succeeded in producing highly effective medicinal plant extracts without alcohol.
In1936 the WALA trademark was established (Warmth Ash Light Ash)

In 1966 The DR.Hauschka Skin Care Range was developed with the help of Elisabeth Sigmund who studied medicine at university and then concentrated on cosmetics, as it became clear to her that medicine had totally neglected this field.

During World War II Elisabeth Sigmund served as a nurse, and afterwards moved to Sweden where she set up her own cosmetic institute. She researched everything she could find on medicine and cosmetics, especially anthroposophic medicine and botany, as used in cosmetic preparations. Through her research, she started to manufacture her own range of cosmetic preparations, but was still not satisfied. She eventually came to the idea that her own herbal creams could be used as a medium to carry other things, and started to use the WALA remedies in her skin care products. In 1967 Dr.Hauschka Skin Care Range was launched.

Today, WALA employs 400 people and exports its remedies and skin care products throughout the world. Testing and quality control is vital – the quality of a natural product is only determined by the quality of the natural ingredients and the manufacturing process. WALA is committed to producing the highest quality products possible and it uses state of the art technology to test the products at various stages throughout the manufacturing process.
